I know that the legality is fuzzy on 35mm collecting, but I am managing a friends 35mm home theatre now, and he has an amazing setup. He even has a commercial ultrasonic 35mm film cleaner that does a dazzling job. But we are having trouble meeting other collectors, he only has 3 prints at the moment and would like to expand the collection. If anyone can point us at some groups either here or privately it would be much appreciated. He is more than happy to purchase from overseas, even with the associated freight costs.

Ive got 35mm over here in NZ, There is the Aussie printed REEL DEALS mag, there are guys in that that have 35mm titles for sale.

The sources for new prints have 99.9% stopped with the conversion of the industry to digital. At this point about the only option your friend has is to acquire prints from OTHER people's collections.
The studios really aren't worried much anymore. The paranoia over 35mm film collecting is all but over at this point.

Hello Pete. I my own cranky way I feel we have a duty to preserve as many 35mm projectors and films as possible with the Cinema melt down to digital which was why when given the opportunity to upgrade my 35 to a Cinema machine I took the moment with both hands. Similarly many old style shall we say Cinemas are being preserved and more recently the Mary Shelly Theatre in Dorset is also seeing a move to preserve its heritage which sadly all the multiplexes achieved upon closure were to throw Kinotons in skips along with irreplaceable equipment.
These days film finding is a relatively easy process due to the Internut, sorry Internet and particularly ebay has relaxed its 35mm sales listing which I’m guessing is partly due to fair trading and thankfully this opens up a whole new area for 35mm collecting. As with many on this particular forum it’s a good way to finally get to meet other collectors and break away from being on your own with the hobby. Likewise the 35mm Forum will fascinate you I am sure. Carry on projecting!

I have a nice Std 8 film, called '35mm projectors', it is a collection of some dozen or so machines from the estate of Don Malkames from Yonkers NY - Particular details go into the technical aspect, etc - A fascinating history - Not sure if Don is still around nor his collection - Yet, another fine Blackhawk release - Shorty
