Network seem to lead the way these days with neglected titles I find particularly if you like the old British B&W squeaky titles as I do. I'm looking forward to getting Twins of Evil to rein act the double bill they had at the time on 3rd October also injecting Super 8 into the programme. [Eek!]

Lee what does DVD quality look like when projected with the BenQ 1070?. They have all the Charlie Drake films on DVD and in correct aspect ratio at Network...I too like British B&W films and the Merton Park Edgar Wallace etc, Colour favorites 'The Bargee', 'Spring and Port Wine', 'Melody', Burton and Harrison in 'The Staircase' the list is endless...

Hi Steve. I use a Sony Blu-Ray player into the BenQ which I should mention..
We are only just starting to feed the BenQ with formats other than Blu-Ray so I could not really give you a cut and dried answer to that but DVD will not compare easily to the HD stuff but DVD does look OK. For fear of VS of my old Acetate prints I have undertook to ProRes scan them in order to preserve my favourite films just in case onto pen drives or BR. I'm very multi format here even using Betamax Stereo but overall I find the Benq a great machine and proving even more handy than I thought as part of our fun loving cine evenings.
Will give you some feedback when I have run all the formats we use here through it.

Not yet, as they are still trying to sort something out for my hearing, the latest is a wireless mike which fits behind my dead ear and feeds a signal to my OKish ear, I have to wait another six weeks for this, but at least when some-one or thing is on my right side I will hear it in my left ear, so I won't be shocked so much through-out the day, except when I see my Mrs. but it's the latency that drives me mad...

Oh dear I do hope that all goes well for you.

I see they put the price back up, did well with my box including a free 5 year warranty which I hope does not come in handy [Wink]
Without wanting to hoist the thread we have enjoyed the BenQ and showing a brief programme of electronic media followed by Cine works well for us. The plethora (big word for a Monday) of Hammers now on disc is also handy and good to see some of the Planet Films come available on BR including Island of Terror, one of the Old Derann Standard 8 feature favourites from back in the day. Goodness it was a thrill to hire that and project it in my youth on the trusty Eumig, who would have dreamed well over 40 years later we would be showing it via a rotating disc.

'Island of Terror' was the very first feature I hired from 'Bernco',I didn't know it was out on disc. I have the Derann 'The Uncanny' which is the Donald Pleasence story in the film,I see is available at Network on DVD. 'Soldier Blue' is another favorite is it available on Blu-Ray I wonder??, I just got 'A Star is Born' Streisand & Kristofferson Blu-Ray from Aus for about a fiver... I was thinking if Super 8 was still the main source of movies in the home would Aldi and Lidl be selling Marketing and Piccolo films?...

Oh yes! Island of Terror is now on BR distributed by Odeon. Interestingly less extras than on the DVD so if you have that already hang onto it but the BR is sheer joy to watch. IOT really fetches back the magic of those golden days of cine collecting with Derann when they distributed films on 8mm we all grasped for and a very nostalgic view. The BR is a real treat and tribute to Planet (aka formerly MancunianFilms) with some excellent restoration by Pinewood which was long overdue. In the box is a printed book of notes, disc inc trailer and images.
Its partner, at least in my eyes 'Night of the big heat' is also out with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing together making a good double bill.

Back to Hammer, it was very comforting to see Michael Ripper and George Woodbridge in Hammer films, George even if playing an Austrian inn keeper would always play it like he was in the 'Archers'...

Steve as promised I waded through some dvd's to see what they looked like fed hdmi into the projector up against Blu-ray looking at B&W flicks and colour. I would estimated the viewed dvd's to look around 5 times less crisp as the Blu-Ray media and actually quite hard to watch once you have seen some of the latest BR discs available. Notably the WB cartoons are quite good on dvd and stand up reasonably on a big screen, but some of the dvd's such as Ghost of St.Michaels look poor. I primarily replaced my old projector to see BR so low resolution viewing will be limited although included in some programmes.
Also shown recently were some of the 16mm home movies I've been scanning for archiving which looked amazing, particularly one filmed in the 30's.

Well that's about it my friend and here is quick snap off screen showing the BR Island of Terror.

Thanks Lee, the blacks are black in the IOT picture. The Will Hay dvd's are very poor at least the one's I have, if I remember, over-bright and no contrast...
