I recently picked up a title that was mounted on 2 larger reels, I assumed they were 800' reels looking closer it clearly says 700ft
On the reel these are posso reels has anybody else seen 700' reels?

I'm a nerd about unusual reels and interesting designs, but 700' is one that I for one haven't ever heard of. How about some measurements and a photo? Could be interesting!

Hello again Jim,
Usually the Grasso Cine Book style reels are marked up as 700ft feet and are a smaller diameter than nearly all 800ft reels.
Posso reels are usually a little larger and are the same diameter as as Bonum reels.
The Posso that were supplied with all Beaulieu projectors when new are 800ft ones.
I can't say as I've seen any different other ones made by Posso. Certainly not here in the UK anyhow.
Can you post a picture of it Jim?

It's actually a 800 ft reel. If you turn it, you will find the 800 ft indication on the other side. If I'm not mistaking, the side you pictured shows the lenght for sound films (hence the symbol seen on your photo). When you send silent stock to a lab to have it stripped, they ask you to forsee a larger reel as the sound film takes more room.

yep, it says 830 ft on the other side so do these hold more film than a typical 800 ft reel?

It seems to. In meters, it says the reel has a capacity of 250 instead of the usual 240.

And the one you kindly photographed there Jim, is indeed the regular Posso 800ft spool as supplied with Beaulieu projectors when new.

As I say, the only actual 700ft reels I can think of is the Grasso ones supplied with "Cine Books".
