The Somerset Carnival season has started with the highlight last Saturday, the Bridgwater Carnival with its brightly lit floats.

However, there have been complaints from the float performers of being cold, particularly those who are "en tableau" (still).

For many years the floats have pulled generators, some 500 kVA, for all the lighting, many hundreds of the lamps giving off a delightful warmth.

Now, some floats have changed to LED lighting, but as we all know, such lamps give off very little heat.

So it looks as if the often flimsy costumes may have to be re-thinked in the future!

my dodgems took 240 amp to run the lights on the ride and 140 amp to power the cars
I have now changed the lights to led and it now only takes 50 amp this save a lot of money in diesel running the generator and also the leds last 10 times longer

some of the lamps on those could be 300eatt GES (Giant Edison Screw) fitting. That is just to light the track the illuminated display ones as well would have been 60w -100w each. It soon mounts up.
