If I remember correctly from earlier shows he would have got his liking for 16mm from his mother, the Queen herself was seen using a 16mm camera for family movies. I believe it was a B&H turret lens model.

As I recall, the Queen's 16mm camera was a G.B.-Bell & Howell model 603T. This was the auto-load model with a two-lens turret.

Watched the programme of Royal Family personal films on TV last night. There were pictures of the Queen using her 16mm camera. It also contained footage shot by her late father George VI of the queen, her sister and other members of the family as children in B/W shot on his Pathescope 9.5mm camera. Ken Finch.
