From the Hopi Indian word meaning "Life Out Of Balance"

I bought this blu-ray from a second hand shop for a couple of dollars this week. The movie so impressed me, and I had seen it once before, that I have just ordered the restored digital transfer version released in the UK by Arrow Academy in 2016, which I understand is the same as the Criterion Collection restored version in the US.

This current version, had not been restored, and contains the odd line and some negative dust...hence the order to amazon.uk for the new restored one. Its really the kind of movie that you want to view it, in the best qualiy blu-ray available.

It might not be for everyone, but there is no denying, its an amazing ride of stop motion photography. Released back in 1983, its one of those films, a bit like "Baraka" that gets you thinking about our world and the people in it.

Without doubt, this is a movie that needs to be watched on a large screen, plus sound system that can make full use of the DTS 5:1 music by Philip Glass.

If you like to watch something that's a bit different, then "KOYAANISQATSI" might be for you....screen shots from the other night.

Graham, I love that movie. I was fortunate enough to see Philip Glass perform the score with a live orchestra at a screening about 10 years ago. Magnificent, as was the sequel Powaqaatsi.

This movie would be so cool on super 8 stereo

Don't forget the other non verbal films by Ron Fricke who WAS the cameraman on Koyannisqatsi

Baraka and the sequel Samsara both filmed in 70mm

Plus his Imax film Chronos

And Godfrey Reggio's 3rd installment following Powwaqatsi; Nacoysatsi

These films should be on your list if you liked the first one.....

CG!
