A bit of history of some video I took around 2009. Although the place and film projection has now long gone, its great to look back on some of that footage...just a pity I cant convert it to 16:9 as it was shot..

Graham thanks for posting this one. Shame about the 16:9 squeezed image.

It brought back memories of the " fiddly bit " when replacing a Xenon. Proper realignment of the lamp house reflector mirror.

It could sometimes be a bit time consuming if you had to change a lamp during a show. [Wink]

In the 10 years of projecting I have only had two lamps explode, strangly both quite close time wise and in different projectors, the Bauer and Simplex and both had low hours from the same manufacture. One such lamp exploded in the Simplx during the last session of the night. Under warranty both lamps were replaced at no cost to us, but the damage to the mirror in the Simplx was such it had to be replaced to our cost.

I call these old photos taken of the simplex our "BOOM" photos, one thing is for sure when dealing with Xenon lamps, is the need to wear protective clothing and most importantly your face, neck and eyes. The velocity of the glass could kill or blind without it.

Great photos there Graham. I wish I had some to show the damage caused to our Screen # 6 projector.

The mirror reflector was shattered and some shards of glass was impaled in the metal arc housing.

Someone could have been badly injured or disfigured or blinded for life if this were an exposed explosion.

We were still finding small shards of glass years after in the arc despite having sucked most of it out.
