In the hey-day of cinema in the U.K. the system of baring cinemas from showing the first run of a film operated. This meant that the independant or non ciruit cinema was made to wait until a film had completed it's first run cinema circuit before others could obtain it. When and why did this system end? Was it because of the drastic decline in Cinemas or was it a Court case? Was this operated elsewhere.

The Office of Fair Trading got involved with numerous complaints from the "little cinemas" and barring disappeared during the 1980s.
