Who could have imagined it?

-It's been half a decade since John Black did what I thought was almost impossible back then and planted a small gauge film collector's gathering on the Jersey Shore.

All the questions: Where will you have it? How will you raise the money? Who gets stuck paying to rent the room if five people show up? Were all taken care of by a simple idea: you find a place welcoming to it and let it grow naturally. John knew the hotels in Wildwood and how much they need early and late season business. He brought together two needs and five years later it still works well.

This is a amazing weekend, we do a lot, but it is very laid back. It is a lot of fun at the same time it is very undemanding. Nothing starts at anything sharp, and you aren't there 15 minutes before lift-off nobody is going to pass a stone as a result.

-It's just a bunch of friends hanging out at the beach, watching films, buying/selling/trading/discussing films and going out to eat. That's all it is, and all it needs to be.

If you'd like to join in, there's not a lot more you need to do than just show up. It's not too late to get a hotel room, but frankly if you are in commuting distance you don't even need a hotel room. (One of us lives about 5 miles away). It is profoundly welcoming: they even let me in!

Hear, Hear!

I'll be coming up with Gary Crawford and we hope to see both as many familiar faces as possible and newcomers who have decided that "number 10" is going to be the time they show up.

One you have been to one of these, the casual friendliness, the loads of films and the lovely location by the sea all stick with you.
Think of it as a "lost week-end" where you get to indulge in the hobby and meet people who share our pleasure in film collecting.

I look forward to seeing you all.

Claus.

Wish I could make it. The Saturday nigh film show has to be the most eclectic film presentation on the planet.

It's kind of a Forrest Gump style show ("You never know what you gonna get!") because quite a few of us bring films to show. I brought a really nice S8 "Buccaneer Bunny" about a year ago, and got bumped off screen because a 16mm print of the same cartoon went up first! There's usually a sample reel from Steve Osborne that I always watch with pen and paper because I know there will be something I see on there I'd like to buy.

It's very rapid fire: the prints in the show are usually 20 minutes and under and we alternate Super-8 and 16mm.

What it has for everybody there is variety and a certain freshness to it. Let's face it: when you're watching your own prints at home, even (or especially) the ones you love you've seen many times. Here you can see a dozen films and maybe have never seen most of them before.

This is not to say we wait until after dinner to start watching films. All day long there is a room full of projectors and screens and you can drift from screen to screen taking it all in.

We'll be glad to see you the next time, Guy!

True Shorty,

You were also the prime advocate here on the 8mm Forum.

You thought is was a good idea before I even thought it was possible!

We're definitely up for the shirts Lou.

Actually I'm up to about 5 t-shirts dedicated to CineSea: we may need to make it a full week!

(I mean: where else can I wear a Kodak yellow shirt that says "Kodachrome: 1935-2010"?)

I can't wait!

The brand new CineSea logo (designed by the amazingly talented Jean-Marc Toussaint) will be unveiled this weekend and posted here on Monday.

I just finished a stereo re-recording of Ken Films' The Poseidon Adventure cutdown (on a halfway decent color print) to be part of the Saturday night screening.

We'll also be showing (digitally, since that's the only available source) the hi-res trailer for the new Metaluna Productions documentary Super 8 Madness, along with scenes from some of the films featured in the doc.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone there. If you can make it please drop by!

There will certainly be an "XI", Guy.

We are having a great time, I'd say there are at least five screens lit up downstairs. (We three are on lunch break right now...)

Word on the street is my picture above comes out right side up on a computer and upside down on a cell phone. Isn't digital media funny sometimes?

A beautiful 82 degrees here in Galveston. Still wish I was in Wildwood. Remember seven movie projectors plus John Capazzo's expresso machine and toaster oven is the limit at the Ocean Holiday without throwing a breaker.

Just noticed Jack Cleveland's post. He is a friend of mine from the show in Syracuse. Glad to see he made it. Really hope all of you are having a great time.

In the middle of the film show right now!

( First year I'm able to post using a cell phone and I'm not wasting it either!)

Thanks Jon Addams and all for the very warm welcome. I had a wonderful time being with like minded people in Wildwood. Loved the event, and the opportunity to see all the films with each other.

Steve, Lou 1 and Lou Jr, John, Gary 1 and Gary 2, Shorty, Jon,Claus, Doug, Jeff, and any I've missed- it was a pleasure being with you all.

It was great having everybody together once again!

CineSea still isn't big, but it is growing. There were so many projectors operating in that room yesterday that I'm sure there were beams passing through each other at times.

The films available were great ones and many too. I grabbed quite a few and left a couple behind as well. I picked up a Blackhawk "Mush and Milk" which puts that great line "Don't drink the milk! It's spoiled!" in my speakers! I've been looking for this one for years.

Steve, it so happens I just watched "Mush and Milk" last week. I have over fifty Our Gang comedies on Super 8. "Mush and Milk" is among my favorites.

As always, a wonderful time...and I want to thank everyone who bought films from me this time , when I really needed that financial help. It was great!!!! A great weekend..with thousands of films to buy, sell, swap and watch.... I counted at one time during Saturday afternoon...six projectors running at once. Great stuff. A a big thanks to Shorty and Doug and Lou for organizing this terrific twice a year event!!!!!

Claus is our resident photographer par excellance, and a dear friend to all - The weather was so ideal, the camaraderie so high-pitched, the screenings assorted and delightful - Our tenth year was a success - Thanks to all you wonderful people - John Black would be proud - Shorty

I finally got around to watching some of the films I bought last weekend.

-first up was the Blackhawk "Mush and Milk"

I'm 52 years old and at long last I know what was wrong with the "milk"!

Isthmus be my lucky day!
