Can anyone suggest where to find for the ELMO 16-CL Xenon:

1. The Rear Fan V belt
2 The new rear take up system
3. The Service Manual

Has anyone idea why I'm experiencing this problem: I got an automatic swtching off of the XENON lamp after only five-six minutes of projection. If I wait even only one minute and rotate the knob backward and then forward again the lamp starts again, but after few minutes it switches off again. Any idea?

Hi Flavio,

If the fan belt is missing, I would expect the machine to get to hot and shut down the lamp (I'm not sure if this machine does that, but I would certainly hope so), to prevent it from overheating.

When I got my CL16-Xenon a few months ago, the fan belt was also missing. I made a new belt myself with this belt material that you cut to size and melt together. There isn't much strain on this belt, so this should be ok for a long time.

There is a service manual for the CL on the FilmTech site. I emailed you with a pdf attached.

I got a new take-up assy from Urbanski Film, but it sounds like Richard sells the same stuff (for a similar price). It was easy to install and it works great!

Unfrotunately, as I wrote in the mail, this is not for the XENON version that is different from the halogen version.
Anyway thanks for the file!

I will try to get an o-ring to replace the fan belt...

I think you lamp shut down is directly related to a heat problem. On this machine when you switch it on, the lamp should come on at full output and then drop to half (or idle). Then when you start the projector and open the douser the lamp comes up to full.

Don't run the projector if the cooling fan isn't working. Put something on it to drive the fan and see if the lamp stays on if the projector is just turned on (idle lamp at 50%). If that works, then try running the machine. Make sure no air passages are blocked.

These are nice machines, but I've seen the lamp house plastic deformed where they're left on all day and get quite hot.

I don't see the lamp can be in two conditions: idle (50%) and full. I see only the full mode, when I rotate the knob completely on the right clockwise.
Furthemore the fan I mention doesn't operate directly on the lamp but on the motor itself...
Are you sure you are referring to the ELMO 16-CL Xenon model?

Yes the Elmo 16CL Xenon. The three or four I've worked on all struck the lamp when the main ac is turned on (not the knob).

Then after your thread the projector and turn the knob, first the threading is set, second the motor starts and third the douser opens and the lamp comes up to full.

The standard lamp doesn't turn on until you rotate the selector switch to the show position.

Perhaps there is a Marc 300 version which wouldn't strike until the final position--but I don't know that elmo made one of those.

If the lamp isn't striking when power is turned on (and ot the selector switch for showing) there may be a problem with the power supply for the lamp or perhaps someone has modified the factory wiring.

John - I think you are talking about the CX models (CX-350, CX-550). What I think Flavio has is the ealier 16-CL Xenon (250W xenon) which is basically a standard 16-CL, but with a Xenon lamp. (slightly larger than a 16-CL to fit the internal power supply and the extra fans).

Thanks Steve, I couldn't understand why his machine wasn't coming on, but it sounds like it's set up like the Eiki machines where the lamp comes on with the show position. (I must have worked on the CX machines but I didn't dig into the service manuals to see which it was.)

It still sounds like the power supply or lamp is overheating or perhaps a safety theromstat is opening at the wrong temperature.

Finally i got a new fan belt and I'm trying the projector just now... It is working since 25 minutes and the lamp is still switched on !!!
John you were completely right! There should be some protection from overheating...
