Unusual Pathe Baby splicer gadget on eBay. What does it do??

I've not seen anything like this before and thought someone out there might want it, or at least explain how it works!

It's a Film Notcher for use with the enclosed metal film cassettes. Part number C.245. It was priced at 5/-.
The left end punched out a notch for the projector to temporarily stop.
The right hand side cut out a slot placed near the end of the film. When the film reached the claw/s it stopped because there was no film for the claws to further feed it, thus preventing the film from being pulled off the central core of the cassette.
