  • Ligonie projector

This silent projector was sold for € 820. That gives an idea of the interest 9.5 still attracts.

    Dom,
Interesting that the design of this Ligonie machine was based on the Elmo ST600D projector.

Indeed, Paul. Ligonie also converted sound Elmo projectors.

The Pathe Europ looks like a beautiful 9,5mm machine, and I like the fact that it has screw thread focusing. as opposed to snail cam on the Ligonie converted Elmo ST600D machines. I wonder which one was considered the better performer of the two.

Hard to tell since the Ligonie/Elmo is not widespread. I never came across any of those beautiful machines on any film fair, although the Europ is a classic. The Ligonie/Elmo is obviousely brighter, but I don't know about the sharpness of the picture.

The Europ was indeed a very good performer and with a little modification a sound version would have been a good proposition. Unfortunately this was too late in the day for 9.5mm. In some respects the gauge was a victim of the Second World War and the development of the Super 8 format.

A great looking machine for sure!

Oh Dom, I wish. It was the gauge that enabled the less wealthy to indulge in the hobby before Kodak developed the Brownie 8 camera and projector! Not forgetting being able to buy a very large variety of films for home entertainment.😊
