  • 9.5mm evening at the Cinema Museum

Just in case anyone in the London area is interested, my friend David Wyatt and I were due to be co-presenting an evening celebrating the centenary of 9.5mm film at the Cinema Museum on Wednesday 14th December:

    http://www.cinemamuseum.org.uk/2022/...petrovna-1929/

I will now be presenting the evening on my own, but very much as a tribute to David. Everything will be projected on film, no digital. Titles include A Visit to the Pathé Factory, the lost Ivor Novello film The Gallant Hussar, The Wonderful Lie of Nina Petrovna, various stencil colour films, and more! All will have live piano accompaniment.

I very much hope some forum members are able to make it, as it's one of very few such events where actual prints are being shown for the centenary. Projectionist Phil Clark will be using Tony Saffrey's Specto projector, with HID lighting.

Thanks Dom. Lucky you were able to get there with all the rail strikes and weather problems we are experiencing. I really do miss not being able to get around so easily as I could before the pandemic. Ken Finch.😒

Yes, Ken, I've been very lucky with the Eurostar (first, to find cheap tickets in December and second my trains were not cancelled) and the local trains I took on Tuesday and today. Sainte-Pelloche (Saint Filmstock, but in French it sounds better) was with me.

Curse my memory (and not putting it on my wall calendar) I missed this and only live a 20 minute bus ride away.

Thanks for those pictures, Dominque. The only time I have been there has been on days when they had a sale on and a friend was selling books etc there. I din't really take enough time to look at everything.

                      Great! Thanks for posting!

I wonder how many of the LPs in this and other museums might contain the lost original soundtracks to certain films. I also wonder how many soundtrack-LPs exist for films that are lost. …

I was lucky to purchase foe a song a book that is certainly well known by all the Anglo-saxon members but I discovered : The Silent Cinema (by Liam O'Leary). For the little history (translated from "pour la petite Histoire"), it's the second book I read in English

On this list of lost films, they indicate some soundtracks that survived.

Hi Dominique - great photos! It's an amazing place, but they need a lot of support this year to raise funds to try to buy the building. It's an extraordinary collection, and everything is piled so deep, there are many more amazing early projectors buried behind things!
