  • Elmo 16-A 16-AA 16-AAR Take up gear needed

    Hello everyone

I have a problem with my Elmo projector and I need the metal sleeved gear that is placed at the very end of the take up mechanism and held by a circlip. The one on my model has cracked and needs replacing. My model is a 16-AA but I'm sure the 16-A and the 16-AAR will use an identical type. Failing that I can imagine this same gear may have found it's way into other Elmo projectors too.

If anybody can help please let me know!

    Hi Bren
Had a similar problem with a gear on my standard8 Elmo TP8, unable to source a replacement I tried a DIY fix. Using a slightly larger diameter jubilee clip with some adhesive tape lining the inner of the clip to protect the nylon gears , I put it over the gear and carefully tightened it up to see if the gear would join up , it did! I then mixed some Araldite undid the clip and applied the glue , making sure the two ends were cleaned thoroughly ,then tightened the clip up again and let it harden over night. It has been working fine ever since. You could give it a try if all fails. Hope you get it sorted.

Thank you for the tip John, I did have a similar idea of removing it from the metal bushing and making an engraving of a letter I perpendicular to the split, closing it up and gluing a new piece of I shaped plastic into the hollow I've created to act a little like a clamp. I have also found a site for 3D printed gears, I may consider giving this a go too if the cost isn't too high. They state that their gears are extremely strong so hopefully it would be suitable if I can get one the correct size for a good price.
