There was a copy of meet Frankenstein 400 on eBay around Halloween. It was US based and I think expensive buy it now . It was in Universal 8 white box with label.

Shorty would want the Castle boxes with the artwork specific to the title. Or at least the generic Castle red A&C boxes. The latter may have been all they made for 16mm releases. It is hard to get Castle 16mm A&C in the original boxes -- most of mine were bought with just the reels. OBs are more an 8mm and Super 8 thing than 16mm.

Yea? I have in 16mm a W.C. Fields and A&C in generic Castle boxes -- not even the A&C and W.C. Fields generic boxes.

I wound up almost completing my A&C Castle collection by getting most in 16mm -- it was much easier that way. That being said, I've yet to get KNIGHTS OF THE BATH and CHAMPS OF THE CHASE -- they seem to be elusive in both gauges, and when they show up they're over-priced. I do have the U-8 IN SOCIETY in Super 8 that combines them. I've had that one for many years.

Castle didn't put out 400 footers until they became Universal 8 in 1977.

And to make it confusing, U-8 put out 800 foot versions in 16mm of their Super 8 400 footers. And these didn't even come close to 20 minutes in either gauge.

I occassionally see the classics in b&w in U-8 16mm, but I've never seen the more modern color films listed anywhere, though they of course exist.

It would have been nice if the 2-parters were also released in 16mm, since more care was put into these.

For the older films in b&w, U8 prints that weren't just re-boxed Castle Films looked mostly liked dupes -- and I've read that they were in fact just that. Castle's pre-print was usually 35mm fine grains -- and they certainly look it -- especially in 16mm prints. Even Castle standard 8mm prints look fantastic on a 5 foot wide screen.

When a U8 release was just 2 Castles edited together, they also looked dupey, so collectors should aim for the original Castle releases in those cases. For example, W.C. Fields in IT'S A GIFT from U-8 has horrible picture quality; THE BIG THUMB and CALIFORNIA BOUND look fantastic.

I agree with you Brian. I see no problem with imparting your knowledge relative to the subject and the response you received was nothing more than rude. A few manners wouldn’t go amiss with some older members of this forum.

The difficulty about going off topic in a "films wanted" post is that the person is no closer to getting the films they want, are they? Don't know about you, but I'd be pretty frustrated. Sometimes the wrong word gets put into service. I think both empathy and manners are equally important.
Let's close this and start again.
