It's way beyond my budget Joe! I'll bet some avid collector with deeper pockets will grab it however. The sale that amazed me was the used VHS copy of the movie. They are asking $155!

Hi Ed. They do sell for a whole lot more than that. I've kept my first release of Halloween and also CBS Fox stereo VHS of Star Wars along with a few others. Someone told me a SW 1983 vhs sold for $3000 ouch. With me its the memories not the money but such huge amounts even for Super 8 is a bit stunning.

Lee, I agree that prices for old media can be quite stunning. However, very few asking prices are exorbitant, if they are able to sell at that price. I've certainly asked myself, "Who would pay so much?". The answer is, "Someone who can afford it!". If money was not a limiting factor, I suspect that many of us film fanatics would collect 70mm almost exclusively.

My guess is that the old Star Wars video tape sold because it contains footage no one has seen since it premiered in theaters (i.e. no Lucas revisions). I had a VHS copy of SW when it first came out. And then a copy of the original trilogy. And so on... If someone tells me where to get SW in 4K, with a good 3D conversion and Atmos re-mix, I will buy it again. The VHS tapes and DVD's I had are long gone. However, I still have my original Super 8 400' digest of SW.

PS: The "watchers" on the 16mm SW print is up to 24 today. Will it sell to one of them for more than $4000? We will find out next week!

Talking of VHS Star Wars. It was interesting that when the first vhs came out with linear stereo sound within a few months we had the hi fi stereo upgrade. Linear died very quickly on vhs at least over here.

I dont want to go right off topic but when we had the Manchester Film Fair uk here it had many tape stalls particularly the large clam shell type along with cine sales. Our loved Peter Hemstock and a good few others trading cine prints I always used to come home with new supplies. I miss that event very much indeed often finding so really nice 16mm and super 8 you wouldn't see elsewhere as it was very much a cross media event.

I'm sure someone will pick up on the 16mm feature in the end.
