  • Help Identifying 16mm Reel

Hi everyone! Looking for some cinema experts here. I acquired a collection of 8mm movies in the past 6 months or so but amongst them there was one 16mm reel. No title or name on the reel and no leader tape. All I have to go on is it's a 650' metal reel with 'CYLDON', 'Made in England' engraved on it.

I have no means of projecting or viewing this but it's baffling me as to what movie (assuming it's a movie) it might be from!

I've only unspooled a few metres and can't recognize anything from the images.

I don't know what's the best method of capturing a still from a print so I just scanned this in a home printer/scanner and zoomed in on the scanned image. I know the quality is crap but maybe someone here might be able to identify actor/scene. Can take more images from later on in the reel if required.

As the left hand picture was dark I took the liberty to expand and process so people can see more (I haven't a clue myself)

I recognize the guy in the second picture, and an internet search gave me this picture:

Unfortunately the web site I used does not give me his name unless I give the website $20.

A google search for this image results in „Raymond Burr“ as Perry Mason in Perry Mason, Season 3, from 1959

And the guy in the picture is Arthur Franz.

Arthur Scofield Franz was born in Perth Amboy, NJ, to Dorothy and Gustav Franz, German immigrants. He was a reliable character actor in many 1940s and 1950s "B" pictures, often cast as a friendly small-town businessman or professional (as in The Doctor and the Girl (1949)) or the lead's sympathetic friend (as in Invaders from Mars (1953)). He wasn't confined to just "B" pictures, however. He had good parts in such major productions as Sands of Iwo Jima (1949) and Alvarez Kelly (1966) and acquitted himself well. However, the film he's probably best remembered for is Edward Dmytryk's solid little "B" thriller The Sniper (1952), in which he turned in an outstanding performance as a mentally unstable ex-soldier in San Francisco who, after being rejected by a woman he was interested in, snaps and terrorizes the city by taking out his old army rifle and stalking and picking off women.
