  • My Kodatoy’s bulb blew up, and idk what to use as a replacement

one website said that an equivalent would be a CDS/CDX projector lamp, or I could use a 1110 auto lamp, incandescent or led. which should I use? Thanks.

Also I don’t want it to be too powerful as to burn the film when it’s still, I like the fact that you can stop on a particular frame on a kodatoy

      Hi Silas,

Here you start to get into a little automotive history on top of Motion Picture History.

At the time your machine was built, automotive electrical systems were still 6 Volts. 12V came along very gradually, even into the 1960s. My friend had two MGBs: one 1967 and one 1968. the '67 had one 6V battery under the floor in the rear luggage compartment, the '68 had two strapped in series for 12V. That's when this car switched.

I see that the 1110 style lamp is available in both 6V and 12V variants, probably because of this change in voltage.

You really should make sure you are getting the right match between machine voltage and lamp rating. If it's not right, then you will get either "dim" or "POP!". (-Like a flashbulb, it is!)

If an LED works in there, that would be nice: they operate much cooler! (Last longer too...)

        Steve,

Would a CDS/CDX lamp work, or would they need too many volts?

          Hi Silas,

From what I can see, CDS/CDX requires 120V.

I would imagine that even with 12V, this one wouldn't even glow.

Does the blown lamp have any markings on it?
