  • Phlips or osrams ??? any thoughts.

Hi I just ordered 10 x Osram A1/259 bulbs for my Elmo CL, but when they came they were Philips.

The same 50 hours rated type. 900 lumens etc.

They are two lots of 5 wrapped and not tried them yet as I always found the osram xenophots brigther and whiter and usualy last me better than most 50 hour versions.

They do sell the philips ones for slightly more I see !!!

Appreciate any thoughts or opinions etc, many Thanks Mark.

When you ordered the Osram lamps did you specify that you wanted xenophots?
The Osram xenophot is coded 64653, and the non xenophot is coded 64627.
If you didn't get what you ordered you should complain.
However, if you did not specify xenophots the Philips will be just as good.

Hi Maurice, yes I did order the right ones.

Always used Xenophots in 8mm forever.

But I have coped with odd non Xenophot ones in 16mm as the lights better.

I do have some sylvania 1000 hours ones but very dim and yellowey comapred to Osram.

Thanks for the tips Paul, sound good.

        Anyone used the Philips ?

The Xenophots are now on the way, but not looking forward to having to go to the PO !!!! at all.

        Best Mark.

PS anyone know the state of play RE the halogens keeping being made by the way.

Hi guys n gals, sorry to jump on this post but i have one question, can i use an A1/259 ELC lamp instead of an A1/252 EJL in my Eiki Elf RT2? I have a few of the ELC lamps spare and no EJL's, can this cause any damage to the projector transformer?
            Look forward to your comments,
            Thanks,
            Nick

Well I think some older Eiki`s are rated for the 250 watt lamp, some the 200.

I`ve seen odd ones I was surprised were rated for the higher wattage.

I know DG offered me a blue RT was definately rated for the 250 lamp.

What does your`s say on the plate Nick.

Does it have high and low settings, I can`t remember.

I`d think if rated for the 200 watt if you use it on the lower lamp setting ( if it has one ) the ELC 250 would be fine. Still be bright, and should last well then too.

I have heard people say they can cope with the higher watt lamp anyway, but I`d try to stick with the right one, or the lower setting myself.

By the way, I used a Philips ELC lamp, and the light low, or high, was actually fantastic, very impressed.

But of course I had been using a 1000 hour naff one. But they do look good.

The seller does them 5 in a sealed row for £32.95 delivered I think.

              Very nice quality too.

              Best Mark.

Has anyone else experienced the fact that some 200 watt lamps were brighter than 250 watt ones ? For a reason I don't know, 200 watt lamps are more expensive than the 250.

                  Sorry. No.
                  Your transformer will burn out.

Thanks for the replies, Mark the plate says EJL 200, my machine has the dimmer 'eco lamp setting' i have on occasion used an an ELC only when a lamp wouldnt light up so used as a back up but has the correct lamp fitted now.
Thanks Maurice i will stick to the correct type! Just wondered if i could do an upgrade by fitting a later type transformer that Eiki used on their later machines that actually used the ELC lamps, something i think i will look into.
                    Thanks all.

You might be able to swap for an NT1 transformer Nick, but will need to check that with more techie people.

Or maybe you can pick up a nice NT1 or SNT1 etc too and use the EJL`s in that.

I now have 4 x 16mm machines, though two are more for my sons, but never got quite so crazy 16mm wise.

Though one may be going, as my middle son is fancying 8mm more now, hes mad for steel books and 4K etc too.

He prefers the short 200 and 400 footers and cartoons and so on you can get in 8mm.

You need to set some sort of limit or it gets out of control big time projector wise.

                      Best Mark.

Thanks for your help Mark most appriciated, i see there are transformers on ebay from a number of different Elf models, the seller may be a member on here so i shall give them a message, i know what you mean about collecting, i have some shorts on 8mm but not that much, i find theres more available on 16mm jyst the fact the projector is twice the size! The only thing that is a pain on 16mm is the availability of zoom lenses, the house i lived in a few years back had a nice long room for me to project nicely on a 8x6 foot screen, but the house im in now i cant even project 16mm anymore unless i do outdoor screenings which is not always possible!
                        Regards.
                        Nick
