  • Bauer P6 functioning backwards only

    Greetings to all!

After i managed to get my faulty projector to work by replacing the capacitor, something had snapped inside as i was watching a film and the film stopped, even though the motor was running normally. I checked everything, the belts were attached.
So the thing is, i can play the stuff backwards for some reason. The main belt seems to be slipping and it makes a squeaky noise as i try to play stuff forwards, it seems that something is keeping the mechanism stuck, since the motor is running very well.
I really want this messy projector to turn back to life.
Do you guys have any idea? Is it a serious problem?

    Greetings Can!

It would be helpful to know what model Bauer P6 projector you have....

    P6 Automatic w/Induction Motor (18 and 24fps)

P6 Automatic 300 with Marc 300 lamp, with Induction Motor (18 and 24 fps)

    P6 Synchron w/Synchronous Motor (24 fps only)

    P6 Studio w/Synchronous Motor (24/25 fps only)

You can find service manuals at : http://www.olafs-16mm-kino.de/bauer.htm
    All in German.

Another suggestion, go to this film forum: https://www.filmvorfuehrer.de/

Write a post requesting help with your problem. Tell them the model P6 you have, translate to German, then post it in the sub forum "Schmalfilm". Bauer is a German projector, there are people in this forum that should be able to help you. I received a lot of help when bringing my P6 Studio back from the dead.

Limited parts can be found at Van Eck, or Whittner. But at this time, you may have to cannibalize another P6, as Bauer is long gone.

Have you lubricated your projector lately? Bauer lists 4 different lubricants. The main one to worry about is the pull down claw assembly. There is a small tank filled with a grease that is absorbed by a wick that wicks it to the movement. The tank and wick are no longer available, so you must be very carefully when working on yours.

It may not be a cheap repair, especially if it is the motor.

    Charlie

I had 2 P6s (= a third for spares) up until earlier this year. One was 25fps Telecine converted and had a synchronous motor and a tooth driven belt but the other with the conventional belt was prone to this problem. Flicking REV/FWD usually made it kick in or using the spindle knob to flick start it. The white pressure roller must be clean and grease free and the belt must not be soft. When I acquired my B&H 1694 c/w speed control, I wondered how I had managed for so long. Biggest problem I found was that no one in the UK wants to work on them!
