  • 16mm Bell and Howell Filmosound 2580 Lower Loop Issue

I recently got a Bell and Howell Filmosound projector that has an unusual issue. When I turn it on and run some film through it the lower loop starts to gradually get larger even though the top loop remains the same. I think this may be because the lower sprocket gear is turning too slow, although I have no idea why. Does anyone know about this problem and how it can be fixed?

Sounds like a cracked gear to me. Although still running but the crack had caused the gear ratio to be now "incorrect" (too slow gear ratio in this case) causing that ever increasing lower loop.

If this is really the case, it's quite a big headache then.

The 2580 is a Slot Loader, therefore the internal gears, etc., are not the same as in the auto-thread models.
There is a small extra gear as the sprockets are not in line as in the auto-thread models. Unfortunately this small gear often cracks.
This may be causing the trouble.
