  • Cinerdistan

I have just heard that Martyn Stevens who ran the very interesting and helpful website called Cinerdistan died last month.
At the moment I don't know if the website will continue without his continual updating of information.

Maurice, I see that the web site has not be updated in more than two years. Did you try emailing him (mas@cinerdistan.com)? It would be a shame to loose all that information he has collected over the years.

I used to chat with Martyn quite regularly, but he had been ill for quite some time.
I will try and find out from his friend about the website.

So sad news ! I got an e-mail from Martyn on the 6th November, that was my last contact with him. I had no idea he passed away. I used to see him at film fairs. He will be missed.

It appears that Martyn's daughter hopes that somebody might be interested in taking on the website.

I heard that Martyn's funeral will take place today (22nd February). All my thoughts go to the family.

The last posting made by Martyn on his website was in January where he is commenting on an 8 mm sound projector he is working on. His wife acts as treasurer for “Flickers” the magazine published by Patrick Moules of the Vintage Film Circle which pre dates Group 9.5. Over the years Martyn’s website has been a goldmine of useful technical information, particularly about keeping old projectors working. He is sad loss to people like us but we have to face up to the fact that life is finite and so is old technology unfortunately. Ken Finch.😔

I’m a bit late with this, sad to hear Martyn Stevens has passed away, I’m sure he will be a great loss to his family and friends. I did not know him but I might have passed him on one of the cine fair days.
As with Graheme Newnham (http://www.pathefilm.uk/) his knowledge will be a great loss to the wider cine community and I do hope somebody takes on the Cinderdistan web site as they have with Graheme’s site. Carl Potter
