  • Eiki M 1 projector

I put this question in the 16mm section but the projector has actually been modified to 9.5mm. Since there have been other modifications, I'm not sure the reference M 1 is the original one. I couldn't find any information about an Eiki M 1 model. The "problem" I have is that the arms are larger (I believe 1200m/4000fr) than the other Eiki machines and the belts are broken. I know I can manufacture belts myself but I would prefer using original ones if they exist. So, I hope a member knows the reference for that kind of belts.

Will the attached eBay seller of belts help you?
ELF ST/M ST/H SERIES 16mm PROJECTOR DRIVEBELT SET - ORIGINAL SPECIFICATION | eBay
I have two Elf M1 projectors, one is 16mm and the other is the 9.5mm Buckingham conversion.
Note that their lamps are 200 watts. The lamp has two settings, the selector switch is mounted inside on the transformer.
It is assumed that M stands for manual thread, whereas the similar ST model is auto thread.

Thanks for that link, Maurice, I will send a message to the seller to ask him if his belts are made for larger arms than 600 m/2000 ft. My projector has a HID lamp and has some other modifications. For example, the exciter lamps doesn't light on when you turn the volume knob, there is another knob on the oposite side of the projector and the plug is the "kettle" model, that's why I said I was unsure the M 1 reference existed.

This is the answer I got from the seller (who reacted quickly !) : "Thanks for your message.

The belt sets are for the standard machine.

If you know the dimensions of the belts that you need, I could probably source them for you, but they would be more expensive.

I do have many belts, so its possible I might already have something suitable.

        Thanks."

So it looks like the arms have been modified as well but I wonder how it's possible as they look original (except the spindles, of course.

The spool arms look the same as my Buckingham.
I see yours just says "9.5mm" whereas mine says "Buckingham". Also, the mains lead is captive and lives in a slot below the toggle switches.
I am thinking that yours might have been an early Buckingham, or perhaps had been done in France before Tony Reypert started on his Buckinghams.

Maurice, I have no information about who made the convertion. The projector was bought in the Uk and the sticker is in English (in French, it's 9,5 and not 9.5), so I doubt it has been converted in France but you never know. There is another sticker in English but it's about the hid lamp that can have been added later.

I have spoken to Tony Reypert who says that this projector is not one of his and does not know who did the conversion.

Jan Brezinka used to convert Elf’s for Tony ,,he also did some for other customers, unfortunately he is no longer with us, he was an extremely talented cine engineer and sadly missed. This may have been one of his ?

Yes John, he did some conversion work for me on my L516 to a transistor amp. A trifle brusque, but very helpful.
After some tine Tony found him unreliable, and he changed to another engineer to carry on his conversions.
