Hi folks. Thanks for the information on here about chaging drive belts - have got those all sorted

One final problem - The main projector lamp does not light up. I have changed the bulb but no luck. All the other electrical elements of the projector are working fine - drive belts, exciter lamp, amplifier etc and it all runs fine, just no lamp !

Any tips from anyone on what might be causing this problem ?

It's probably the lamp holder which is your problem. The contacts may have become corroded.

First thing to try is to pull out the lamp and push it back in several times, wiggling it as you do so. Usually this will break down the corrosion within the lamp holder so that good contact is restored. Also check that there is no corrosion on the lamp pins. This often occurs on new/old stock lamps. It is easily removed by scraping the pins with a small knife or emery/sand paper.

All top tips above John. If you have a multi meter worth seeing if the volts are getting thru first
but take great care with electrics.

Also treat yourself to a can of SUPER 10 SWITCH CONTACT CLEANER 200ml around £5 or on Fleabay £7.49 inc delivery. Use that once you have carefully scraped away corrosion on contacts.

A more permanent contact/switch cleaner is Deoxit £6.95. Its a microscopic tube 2ml BUT once used you'll never have trouble with contacts again! Did all my Eumig sound projectors with it a few years ago amazing stuff but more pricey.

If you have a multimeter, also measure the resistance across the filament in the bulb. If it is very high, good bulb, very low, bad bulb.

Hi John hope you are making progress, if not it may be time to put a multi meter on the switches that operate main functions on your Elf inside the back.

At present I've stripped down a bit of a barn find complete with free straw and 1/8" of farm muck in it so having cleaned the old girl up, lubricated and changed a couple of parts I am now reassembling. I took the trouble of taking a photo of the control switch block found bottom right inside my farmer Giles machine so you have a rough idea what it looks like. You can see which one operates the lamp by carefully following the wires.

You will need to remove the fly wheel and amplifier simple enough with one chunky Phillips screwdriver also un plugging the two cable attached to it.
