  • Hoskushin Canary 16 mm projector

Hello! Does somebody own a Hokushin Canary or have knowledge / experience with it? I could obtain one cheap, but would like to hear your thoughts about this machine. Regards! - Nick

I don't know the Canary which was the predecessor of the two Hokushin models that I own. I have the SC-10 with its rotary auto threading mechanism, and the slot loading SC-210MF. If you can get it cheap and it's working OK then it could be a bargain, but bear in mind that spares are probably not obtainable anymore.

I have had a SC-10 and i did not like it. it couldn't handle old films that were shrunken a bit. i constantly had problems with the gripper not engaging the perforations properly and then the loop former on the bottom did his job and jerks very hard on the film damaging the perforations. with my bauer i never had any of those problems because it has a 3 or 4 toothed gripper. it seems to me the Canary is very similar except without the threading arm. the threading arm worked perfectly btw. if its cheap it's allways fun to get it and play around with it.

Owned SC-10 once for a short while.
Although it works but honestly it is quite inferior than say, Eiki or Elmo in certain ways. Finish&fit isn't quite up to the standard. And I couldn't figure out why its intermittent is so LOUD, eventhough it turns freely and as steady as it should be. Finally sold that away.

But yes if it's offered dirt cheap and still fully functional, why not?
