  • WTB: 2x Amateur Cine Enthusiast Binders

Not sure if this is the right section but it does relate to super 8.

I was wondering if anybody had any spare binders that held copies of the long lamented Amateur Cine Enthusiast magazine ?

I have about 14 copies that are still loose and would love to house them in those wonderful brick red binders with gold lettering down the side, as my other copies already are. I am looking for two binders, please. I think they hold about 12 copies each, so 2 binders would leave room for any extra copies I may pick up on my travels.

Please let me know your price.

    Thanks for your interest.

Hi Melvin, I recently found an old volume of ACE magazine, from around 2001, where binders were available to neatly, yet easily store your valuable copies. These binders have cords where the magazines are simply slipped in to store and slipped out to read. Happily, these binders are still available. See modernbookbinders.com These binders are from exactly the same company that made those for ACE. Each binder will hold quite a few editions. For any A4 magazines you might have, there’s a larger version for those too.

Simon - Thank you VERY much for your incredibly fast response to my question. I myself found a slip in one of my magazines mentioning Modern Book Binders Ltd. I had a look on their site first to see if they had any specific ACE binders still available, but it appears not.
I assume when you say that they are still available, you are referring to the identical type of binder that these originally were, but not necessarily embossed with the ACE logo on its spine ? If that is the case, and no one else on this forum responds to my plea, I shall contact them again to see whether a couple can be made up for me. Would be quite expensive, I reckon !

      Thanks again !

Melvin, if you have a branch of The Works or other craft shops near you, I believe you can buy a set of rub on gold letters to label the folders yourself. If you have ever watched The Repair Shop on TV you can see the book binder expert doing just that. Many years ago when I was a student at the Shoreditch teacher training college we had to write a thesis on a craft subject and bind it as a book and title it using the same method. This could save you a lot of money. Many amateur film makers used the same method for making the titles !, 😊

Thanks for that, Ken. I will look into it.
