Hi everyone, Does anyone know where I can get a 2 blade shutter for a Beaulieu 708EL super 8 projector from. Preferably in the UK. I have looked on Van-Elks site and can’t find anything, Wittner have them for nearly 300 euros, I’m not made of money. I hope someone on here can help.
Hello Clive. I'm surprised by your request, I thought all the Beaulieu 708 EL had a 2/3 blade shutter. At least, my projector has it. One of the three blades is moveable and I just have to move it to make a two blade shutter.
Hi Dom, I have been looking at my projector this morning after watching a video on utube and mine is definitely a 3 blade shutter and you can’t alter them to make it into 2, so I am still in the market for a 2 blade shutter if anyone has one that they are looking at selling.
Best wishes and thanks Dom,
Hello Clive, I've just checked on a French page (Projecteur De Film Super 8 Sonore Beaulieu 708 | Saga 8mm (transfert-films-dvd.com)). It seems that, unfortunately and unlike what I thought, the 2/3 blade shutters were only added at beginning of the '80's. Hope you will find one at reasonnable price that will fit your machine. Dominique
There's a locking knurled nut on the one side of the shutter clive, are you sure its not there?, you should see two blades overlapping and this nut releases the position so you can move the 3rd blade to overlap two then lock into place, of course someone could have removed it or you got an earlier model.
Hi Paul, Thanks for the message. I have looked again at the shutter and can’t find a locking knurled nut on it. It is just the 3 blades with no movement or room for one to overlap. It looks as if my projector must be one of the earlier models. Like I said to Dom, I live in hope that I might find one.
As you said very expensive but have you tried enquiring with them about a two-blade only? Also, I have my machine set to 2 blade but it seems to create quite a bit of vibration. Next time I am using the machine I was thinking about switching back to 3.
Hi Steven, Thanks for your message. It is interesting to hear about the vibration when you have the shutter set to 2 blade. I guess it isn’t balanced when you move one of the blades.
I have emailed Wittner to see if they have a 2 blade shutter, if the price is like the 2/3 blade shutter it would be cheaper to convert it to HID.
Regards, Clive
Hi Steven, Further to my last message, I emailed Wittner and have had a reply today. The person that emailed me would have a word with their technical department on Monday and thought they would still have the parts to make me one at a cost of 236 euros.
of course I will be ordering one (I don’t think so)
