  • Our feature presentation/bumpers

After watching some films at Tarantino's theaters I was wondering if anyone has the “Our Feature Presentation” or similar bumpers on 16mm or on super 8. I understand that in super 8 it may not even exist due to the format being for home use. I think they’re called “Astro Daters”

Derann sold several different reels of these (we call them "Daysets) on Super 8 in the UK. "Our feature presentation", "Next week for seven days" , "Thursday for three days" etc. You may be lucky in finding one, but I suspect most will b e spliced into reels of trailers by their purchasers. Mine are.

Here’s a link to Day Sets issued on Super 8. Some are vintage and some modern. I chanced on one recently on eBay CIC set but as Brian says most are spliced into trailer reels.

There is an eBay seller that has new 16mm prints of theater day-sets.

          onepyrotec on eBay

At times I'm pretty sure he's had "Our Feature Presentation", but he doesn't seem to have any right now.

I'm a fan of drive-in theaters. A couple of years ago I assembled a trailer reel by buying 16mm trailers from eBay and putting them on a reel with drive-in day sets from this seller in between them. (If you take this reel literally, both Citizen Kane and Knute Rockney, All American will be on screen this month!...yet: no!)

If you consider this compilation I edited together a film I've "made" (-some latitude here, please!), it means after decades of making S8 films, I've finally made a 16!

Steve Osborne at The Reel Image has had various newly printed Super-8 day sets including a Theater Policy ("no cell phones", "keep quiet",...etc.) that has gaps for inserting trailers. More recently than that he has sold a drive-in countdown clock.

          The Reel Image

It pays to contact Steve and see what he has. More than once I've been in touch and even if he didn't have exactly what I wanted on hand, he may have had something similar and even better!

I actually own a 35mm reel 20 minutes full of these assorted snipes. If there is anyone who can guarantee it would be returned to me in mint condition, I am willing to loan it for super 8 duplication / copies. Reach out to me if you have good leads.......

These are NOT drive in intermission reels or snack bar adds. These are only to be spliced between trailers.

I have a good rewind bench to check all splices. I can provide a decent reel with the risk of aging process of fade.

PS...if we work together.....I get a free copy with sound on super 8.

Here in Germany, several companies (Hama, revue, ROWI, DEFA, …) not only sold „Trickblenden“/„fading strips“/„caches de truquage“ for S8/N8, but also 15m reels or small snippets with „The End“ or animated generic titles like „our summer vacation“ (of course in Germany only in German). This also included German equivalents for things like „and now the main feature“, „and now in full color“, „coming soon“, … . These will definitely differ from the intros that you will see in cinemas, especially today. But I am confident that there have been similar reels/snippets in the USA.

Thank you guys for all the quick and knowledgeable replies i’ll make sure to contact steve and look out on ebay and try to snipe these for myself. I have a bunch of trailers and I want to make a Preview/Trailer reel to add to the micro cinema experience.

This comes in other forms as well. I have a video projector and often when we do a show at home, I project DVDs of theatrical day-sets and drive-in ads. It's got the advantage of being hands-off so we can interact with our friends as they arrive. The VP is bright enough to work with the room lights on.

Theaters used to use 35mm slides with things like advertisements and trivia games even before the coming attractions. I bought a carousel of these since I happen to have my Dad's slide projector. In order to not become attached to the remote control myself, I'm going to build a timer to plug into the remote socket and advance a slide every maybe 10 seconds. I suppose I could just get them transferred to disk and use the VP, but where's the challenge in that?!
