Graham Join the line I only have one film for the Toie Talkie I'm afraid and like other followers the films have proven non existent over here for 50 years or so. Got my one and only optical snd film from a old chap at Dixons when I were a lad and had it ever since. Its a weird Japanese cartoon nice and pink, warped with age but the sound isn't bad. Dixons used it for demo purposes and I only landed it as they were throwing stuff out to make way for video. Last time I projected it was shortly before my 35mm projector left the Kinema and I had the Toie next to it a bit ago.
I pass the baton to you Graham now to find another STD 8 optical sound film but fear you will have a near 40-50 year search like the rest of us.

Even after all these years, this hobby is still able to come up with surprises! I've never heard of R8 optical!

There were two regular 8 optical sound formats. The Toei 8 which placed the optical track on the side opposite the sprocket holes, but with a reduced frame size. Then there was the Maurer 8 which placed the optical track on the sprocket hole side with smaller sprocket holes but no reduction in frame size. Only Toei made a projector for their format but several manufacturers made projectors for the Maurer 8 format including Viewlex, Fumeo and Micron.Last edited by Kenneth Horan; June 22, 2020, 03:06 PM.
