  • WILL BUY - Around The Beatles, Digest Reel, Super 8mm Sound

    Hello there!

Looking for a 100-200ft digest reel of "Around The Beatles", Super 8mm Sound. I'm not sure how far pricing goes for an item like this, but I'm willing to pay $30-40 USD!

I want to get this because I enjoy the show, and mostly because I want to learn how to work AEOLight with the sound strip.

Thank you very much! I look forward to any response!

I don't know about any 200ft digests of this, but I do know of a very full 400ft of this, which I would like to find. One of the neat things about this show was that the Beatles songs were from playback and not live, which I prefer, as, if you wanted to rerecord the soundtrack, you'd have a really nice sounding super 8!

What's unusual about this show specifically is that they had pre-recorded themselves playing "live" in a studio, then mimed to that on the show. At that point... why not just play live 😄? Here's a sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srwxJUXPHvE

Still, an interesting 8mm find. I thought I saw a digest floating around on eBay at one point? I was unsure of the size of the reel, I'm fairly new to film so I can't judge its size from images alone just yet:

There IS a 200' version of this. The confusion lies in the fact that this version is called "The Beatles in Concert" and not "Around The Beatles" but it is from the same gig.

I imagine the performing to playback was so that they weren't having to dodge round cables from the guitars and could move round more without getting entangled as in TV performances of the day (no wireless connections then). It would have been what they and the viewers were used to.

We have the Beatles in concert reel which as Melvin said, was a 200ft b/w Derann release, it's pretty much the last part of the full show less the final number and titles. Quality is pretty good on this reel.
Last year i sold my 800ft, (2 x 400ft) version of the full show, that version was pretty much the full show less the opening which included the British comedy team of Morecombe and Wise- doing a lampoon of Romeo and Juliet, played, respectively. by Paul and John.
It was a very reluctant sale but the sound, while good, allowed the screaming audience to be heard as loud as the music, in some places it was so loud it was difficult to hear songs. Once i found the DVD which has the full show and two other full live concerts, (Japan and Washington) for just a fiver, i opted for that and sold my 8mm copy.
The 200 reel we now have is an ideal souvenir of the show and stays in our collection along with the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show.

Okay, I've got a different suggestion. Recently, I was made aware of "Beatles Receiving their MBEs" newsreel, that is 100ft. Anyone have this for sale? Same asking price as before, $30-40 USD. Thank you!
