FS: Super 8 CinemaScope Feature:
ALIEN (1979)
This print appears to be an Agfa Cinemascope print. From my understanding it was Derann who released this feature on S8. It is mounted on 4x600’ reels. The main and balance mag tracks were recently replaced, so audio will need to be recorded to it. It starts with some wear and improves as you watch it. I detail the wear below. Most of the wear is on Reel 1 and even then it’s mostly the credits. Please inspect the images and judge for yourself. I can send videos through FB Messenger so you can see the wear in action. It’s not a perfect print, but a true classic with Halloween around the corner.
Reel 1
Heavy wear during opening titles that turns into mild to moderate wear by the time the crew wakes up. The wear continues like that for the first 300’. Halfway through the reel the wear lightens and disappears at times- this is by the time the ship lands on the planet. The wear continues to improve through the reel until it ends. I’d describe this reel as similar to the condition you’d find in an ex-rental on 16mm.
Reel 2 is much better and has a few moments/scenes where there is some lighter wear.
Reel 3 is even better than the previous reels. There is a thin green line that starts when Jonesy sees Harry Dean Stanton killed. It’s on the far left for 14 seconds followed by a few black lines. While Ripley and Ash argue there is some light baseline wear in the shadows.
Reel 4 is the cleanest of them all, with just a little baseline/black wear that happens mostly through darker sequences where it is unobtrusive in my opinion.
