Hi everyone. First post. I'm looking for an Elmo ST-180e or 600. I'm looking to convert some old home movies in Super8, but I also have a cadre of 20+ Super8 movies from Abbott and Costello to Bela Lugosi in Dracula. Would love to rewatch these classic films from my childhood with my kids.
I tried eBay, and bought a Bell & Howell 1744. Good machine, but destroyed in shipping and it's proving finicky to repair to full reliability. Even with a new belt, and rubber renew on all the rollers, it's still only works 50% of the time.
So I'm looking for something relatively plug and play. I work on vintage stereo gear fairly regularly so I'm handy that way, and expect there will be minor issues. But from what I've read, the Elmo units are easy to work on, give few problems, and the bulbs are affordable. If you have another recommendation that fits that criteria, I'm open to that as well.
