Oliver, could you clue us in to the difference between the U8 digest and the German Picolo digest?

Not yet. This is why I am looking for the US version. I saw some images from the US version at an ebay auction and the images (like Kelly on the beach with saxophone) were not included in the piccolo version.

I decided to get out my 2X400ft of Xanadu. Now, one of the problems with the original U8 digest, is that it was printed on Kodak SP, as is evidenced by that faded one up for sale now, (and blimey, it's going to sell!), But even on my very good color Kodak SP, ( which I have verified to be Kodak SP, grrrr), is that, while some shots have literally the same exact color, it's the darker scenes that show the lack of pure blacks. That being said, it has held up better than my Blues Brothers. Having scrutinized Tom's screenshots, it appears that when Red Fox reprinted it on LPP, they appeared to have came in on the letterboxing. The U8 digest has a strong letterboxing, literally emulating the scope or anamorphic look of the original 35mm presentation, but I must confess that some projectors may have a smaller film gate aperture, and so a strong letterboxing may not appear so when projected, but I do seem to remember Tom saying that the black bars were rather minimal on his print, and if they did in fact come in some, this would also explain the graininess and not quite the desired sharpness, much like the flat version of the Star Wars part 2.
