  • Free or Trash? Laurel & Hardy Super 8 Blackhawk Double Whoopee 400' Silent Reel

I bought this print of a Laurel & Hardy film Double Whoopee at auction recently.
It is watchable but shows signs of deterioration through out.
At first it looked like burns on the film but under the scanner you can see that the sprocket holes and acetate are ok.
It's free to anyone that may want it in in the forums. Just pay for shipping.
If you are in the USA, I will ship via media mail to save you on postage.

That's not deterioration. That's water damage.

Depends how many damaged cells. If not too many cut them out but if throughout it’s a trash job.

Still, somebody step up and give it a home! I would, but I already have 2 copies.

If no significant part of the print is salvageable, you can remove the emulsion (soak in 20% chlorine bleach solution in a well ventilated area). You will wind up with 400 feet of clear leader. New leader sells for about $8 for a 50 foot roll. If you have the original Blackhawk box in good condition, that is worth something. I'd hang onto to it to use to test questionable projectors as well as a source for leader for your good prints.

I did not realise original boxes had any value. Does this also apply to other distributors? I know catalogues can fetch a good price. 😳
