I watched that auction go up and down. Bids going up, bids apparently retracted, then up again. Once it got up to 200.00, I said screw it. Then, I thought about it, when I saw that it sold 371.00 dollars, For that price, I could make a brand new edit of that 600ft, getting rid of the plot and just having the songs that I love from the film (It's already in the works), and pay less for a brand new print on that Kodak vision stock. That's not ruling out finding an LPP print at a realistic, not insane price, but I'm not going to be driven by an insane feeding frenzy on ebay.

BTW, why are the dang photos so itty bitty?

It was just to give an idea of the color. Here they are a bit larger.

Perhaps the trailer at the start put it up to the $371.

If you ever want Xanadu in LPP this would seem to be your only option.

Nope, not for 371.00 dollars. I'm a very patient man. Someday my LPP will come.

Doubt you will ever get another. That’s the rate of new prints depending where you buy so isn’t too bad. Would end your search for the Maltese Falcon .

I am endlessly amazed as to what pops up on ebay and elsewhere! Besides, the Kodak SP Xanadu that I have, while not perfect blacks, is certainly good enough for me not to freak out and blow recklessly a lot of cash that can be better used elsewhere.

Love Xanadu, but mostly for the music and locations. That looked a really nice print and at that price was a good deal in my opinion. I finally found a print myself but it's not Super 8.

I'll still keep my hopes up. You see, at 58, I'm still a fairly young collector (haha!), and these more "mature" believers, given time, will part with they're LPP prints ... I just hope that I won't be 80 by then

There is always the produce your own option. You would get exactly the DIGEST you want.

I had to love seeing Gene Kelly shouting “HO! HO! HO!”……

FWIW I saw Xanadu on its initial release. A coworker of mine was at Universal when it was in post production. He told me that, believe it or not, the Director hated musicals! And the music department had not made a musical in so long that they did not have a sync playback of the music tracks during the filming of some of the numbers! They just rolled the tape and hadn’t bothered with a sync pulse on the Nagra 1/4” recorder!! The music editors and the film editors had nightmares trying to sync up the footage because essentially everything was filmed “wild”—no sync!!

A similar problem happened when Carol Channing guest starred on THE LOVE BOAT. No sync pulse. I watched the poor music editor with a stopwatch, listening to the playback of the number to mathematically figure out what percentage to increase the tape speed to make it last the length of the cut footage (I.e. 100.25% or 100.21% etc.)

Hey Dave, good to hear from you! That explains a lot! I've noticed that quite a few numbers in the film do not have action on screen that responds to the beat of the music. I am, in fact making a brand new digest of this, but it will basically be a 32 minute "music video", keeping nearly the whole of the music, without the terrible storyline. Hey, I love the music, but I always thought the film was yuck, apart from the music.

I agree with Osi, the U8 Xanadu digest is actually very enjoyable, mostly because it showcases the hit music from the movie.

The Rose is the opposite, as the digest does not include the title track at all. Who edits a digest and leaves out a number one song?
