Today I got an ektasound 235 and tested it with a film. On projecting, the film did not go through the machine, unless I pressed down on a metal piece that popped up when I set it to “project”. Any idea what’s going on?

There's a manual for that projector online. Perhaps that will help. KODAK EKTASOUND 235 MANUAL Pdf Download | ManualsLib

If I were you I would ditch that all plastic Kodak mess of a machine, and buy yourself a good all metal quality projector! These things have not aged well, and I would guess not as kind to film, should there be an issue with loading, etc.

They look nice on a bookshelf, But I have to agree with Shane. Very fiddly machines. Buy either a Sankyo Dualux, Elmo ST-180 or a Eumig
