  • Joe 90 - Arrow Films

I believe Arrow released three Joe 90 cutdowns - Joe the Pilot, Attack and Destroy, & Secret Mission (a 50' version of Joe the Pilot). Were any of these put out in sound?

Atrack and Destroy may exist as a sound version, following that site : http://www.bigrat.co.uk/merchandise/60s70s/arrow.html

Knowing Doug, I get the feeling that even if there never have been sound prints, there probably will be soon!

        Thanks, Dominique!

        Steve,
Exactly! I sound striped the 200' Joe The Pilot and found that the first 50' had been edited in such a way that makes me suspect this title wasn't released in sound. The rest of the cutdown is fine, so I'll make the first part work somehow.

Has anyone come across an Arrow Films catalog?

Although they call it "catalog", it actually a leaflet (the obe they put in the boxes and you probably also have).

            Dominique,

Thanks again! I do not have that catalog. In fact, I only have one other Arrow release, Attack of the Alligators (Thunderbirds), which was a gift from the generous Shorty Caruso.

Was this show a spin off of "Thunderbirds Are Go"?

Osi, I tried to make a sharper picture.

                    Hi Osi,

Joe 90 was one of the television programmes made by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson starting in the early 60s. They were all produced on the same basis of thunderbirds, using combined live action with puppetry. They were commissioned by Lew Grade (raise the titanic) for ATV television in the UK.

The series were. Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, UFO, Space: 1999, Terrahawks and Joe 90.

It's hard to imagine these being made now, as so much work went into every episode. All of the puppets were 1/4 scale of a human, which meant that all of the sets, buildings and cars had to be constructed to this scale.
                    Mindblowing.

There was also a short series with Stanley Unwin as a viar who also did secret agent work - live action and puppets called "The Secret Service".
