  • Bauer T600 film transport problem

I have a Bauer T600 projector with a film transport problem. When feeding the film into the projector all goes well until the lower roller under the vertical part. It seems that the roller is too far to the right causing the film to hit the roller on the top rather than passing on the right side before going towards the audio heads on the left, see the photo's. I included a photo from the user manual on which can , albeit somewhat blurry, seen that the lower roller is positioned far more to the left than on my photo, the position of the film channel is accentuated by a yellow line. Also can be seen on my photo that the lower roller rests on the triangular guide which is not the case on the original photo from the manual.I think this can't be good because these rollers should move freely.
My idea is that probably something has broken off causing the roller moving too far to the right. Both roller and guide are fitted on spring-loaded arms.

I hope someone is familiar with this type of projector and, preferably, this problem and a solution. I do not mind taking the machine apart but not more than strictly necessary.

Joe, I have a Bauer T 600 and it does appear that the guide roller is not in the correct loading position. It appears not to have moved to the running position when last used. Try using the loop former and see what happens. Cannot suggest anything else at present. I will have a look at mine when I get a chance if you do not solve the problem.

I think I had this same issue years ago when using a Bauer 501.
In my case,it was lack of use, causing the roller to not move as it should.
I just worked it back and forwards a few times and it began to work properly.
Cant remember much more, since my Bauer machines are long gone.

Joe, I have found time to check my T610 and from you photos it would appear that in the first one the roller is not in the threading position. in the second one the illustration in the instruction book is it’s position for head cleaning. The roller is spring loaded and your problem may be a broken or disconnected spring.

          Hello Ken,
As I pointed out , the roller is fitted on a spring loaded arm which can be moved freely to the left without binding, see the photo where I pushed it to the left with a screwdriver.
But I suspect that this arm should be resting on a stop or something like that preventing it to move too much to the right. Maybe something is broken there. I can not imagine any situation where the roller touches the guide because there would be not enough space for the film.

Hi Jos, just wondered if you have solved the problem with your Bauer projector?

Hi Ken, I got advice from a local projector specialist ( hard to find these days) and he told me to soak the pivoting point of the alloy lever in the back (see the photo ( yellow arrow))in WD-40 and leave is for 24 hours or so. The grease there tend to turn solid with the years. . During the process I moved the lever to and fro to let the liquid gradually find its way in the bearing.

This all worked well , problem solved!

Pleased your problem solved. Amazing what a little WD40 will do. Some years ago a forum member explained in detail how to replace a broken drive belt on mine without having to dismantle very much of the mechanism.
