Hello everybody,
I have a Bolex 18-5, bought several years ago in a garage sale. I bought it only for the look of this machine, and never used it until two days ago, when I had some old 8mm films to feed it.
At the beginning there was some noise, when the projector was turning. I was thinking it was the chain inside, but after openning it I understood that the noise was coming from the motor fan, and a part behind the fan.
I have read the excellent test written by Paul Adsett here : http://8mmforum.film-tech.com/cgi-bi...c;f=1;t=009716
and could see the fan of my projector is different from his Bolex :

On these silent blocks is mounted a metal tab, which rests on an axis in the middle of the hot air evacuation tunnel, made of gray plastic. This metal axle appears to be electrically connected to components attached to the exterior of the gray plastic tunnel.
I suppose this is a part of the motor contacts, but when the engine is running, this part sometimes makes a particular noise, like metal sheets being crumpled.
I put a drop of machine oil between the metal tab and the axle it rests on, and the projector became silent again. It purrs like a big cat, and this device shows off a manufacturing quality that would be unaffordable today.
Is someone here owns the same projector with the same motor than mine, and encountered the same problem ? And what's the role of these modifications from the Paul Adsett model ? Is it because my projector is an european one, to be used on 50hz ?
This Bolex is a 18-5 made in 1962, with manuel loading and phosphorescent command, and a Hi-Fi zoom 12,5-25 mm.
