  • New old stock Osram A1 / 231 Xenophot EFP lamps .

    Is it just me but has anyone else noticed that these lamps seem to be outputting a more yellow light than the colder bluish white colour ?
    I have just installed a new one and the light seems a lot different and duller to what i remember it should be . I have tried it in a couple of projectors and the light looks the same colour . Maybe i have just purchased a faulty new old stock lamp . I have just noticed it states on the box HALOGEN DISPLAY / OPTIC LAMP . Yet this was sold to me as a 12 V 100 W Xenophot projector lamp . I may have now answered my own question as the filament must wrong for projectors . Has anyone else had this problem with these lamps ?

    I haven't got any marked like that but they will last longer. It may be possible to restore the colour by setting the projector to a lowere input voltage if possible. I don't know what effect that would have on other electronics in it though.

      Although I buy A1 / 232 lamps, I think HALOGEN DISPLAY / OPTIC LAMP is the standard labelling on the boxes now.

      David, if you search for;

      Osram MR16 64627 HLX Halogen Lamps with Reflector

      These come up as the Xenophot 100w, so I really hope they haven’t changed the filament.

      I’ve certainly had bad batches in the past though; too dim or blowing quickly. I think you’ve probably just got a bad one.

      You can but then on Amazon sold by the Osram store. This is how I bought my last lot of A1 / 232 and they were fine.

        Just a later thought, aren't some sold as long life 2,000 hrs? If one of those it could be made to burn cooler and have a lower colour temperature. I was told that runnong at 90% voltage doubles the life of a halogen lamp.

          Rob and Brian thanks for your replies and information . The Osram one i bought does not state the MR 16 part on the box but does the 64627 part . It may just be a bad one though . I won't get a refund though as i have had it some time stored. From now on i am going to test them as soon as they arrive and not leave it to chance and assume that because it is brand new it should be okay .
