  • Blackpool - less than one Week to go!

There's less than one week to go until the Blackpool Film Collectors' Convention gets underway at The Grand Hotel on Blackpool's North Shore. Here's a run-down of what to expect on 15th - 17th November.

The Convention kicks off on Friday night with our feature film, this year projected on 35mm by Nigel Lister. The film starts at 8pm.

Saturday sees our all-day Cinema, starting at 10am. Feel free to bring your own short films to project on Super 8 or 16mm - projectors will be provided.

Saturday night sees us suited and booted for the famous Film Collectors' Dinner - booking is essential! In addition to a delicious three-course meal, there's a film quiz hosted by Adrian Winchester - with a prize for the winner - and a raffle with film-related prizes - memorabilia, DVDs and real film, including quality shorts and feature films on Super 8 and 16mm. The evening rounds off with a film show, this year compiled by Peter Travers of Projections magazine.

Sunday 17th November is the day of the Film Fair, which this year promises to be one of the very best for many years. We've had so many dealers booking this year that we've opened a second dealers' room - and this room is full too! Expect to find 8mm, Super 8, 9.5, 16mm and even 35mm films, DVDs and Blu-rays, merchandise, memorabilia, projectors, spare parts, posters, books, in fact anything you can think of that's film-related. There's also the famous Blackpool auction, and we run a Bring and Buy stall throughout the day, costing just £1 to enter items in either. The Film Fair opens at 10am and entry is £6 - payable on the door.

Throughout the day there will be film shows, including the screening by the Film is Fabulous team of a newly-recovered TV show - not seen since the late 1950s. In the afternoon, there's a Question and Answer session with Mark Williams, author of Bootlace Cinema (which will be on sale throughout the weekend) and an exciting announcement by former Derann director Ged Jones. Vince Wright will also have copies of his 8mm Elvis book with him (pre-order at 8mmelvis.com).

To round off the weekend, this year we've added a Sunday night super 8 film show, starting at 8pm in the hotel and projected by Phil Slater. An informal final get-together, it’s ideal for those of you who want to screen some of your weekend’s purchases or just kick back and watch a few more films.

The Convention only continues to run thanks to your support... we look forward to welcoming you to a weekend that promises to be the very best for many years.

This year's Blackpool looks like it will be fantastic! So much to look forward to! I will take pictures at the event and post them here in the forum as usual, and also make a video to be posted later for all those that are unable to attend. I look forward to see many familiar faces there!

Two dealer rooms and record numbers at the dinner all point to this being another amazing weekend!
