  • International Digests/Rental Prints

    Howdy friends!

im often perusing the international markets for interesting films digests and features!( It’s honestly how I’ve built up a chunk of my collection.)

Whether it be a Japanese digest of PURPLE NOON, tons of Anime , or Italian rentals like Profondo Rosso, I always enjoy seeing what the world offered in Super 8! While I’m not buying it because it’s not in scope and pretty beat up, I thought it was worth sharing that I found a Spanish rental copy of HALLOWEEN for sale!

What are some neat film prints you’ve found from other continents?

I know one I'd like to find, "Shout at the Devil" 1976. It was only marketed as a rental super 8 scope feature, and as far as I know, it was never offered for purchase. I always liked this film, and I'd love to find that a few of these made it into collectors hands.

I imagine that was an Iver films release, I heard the full version (not the 4x400ft) of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was rental only.

At least quite a few of those made it into collectors hands. Was Ivers a rarity when it comes to having an actual rental library? I can't off hand recollect of any other company that did a rental library.

I don't think they had their own, but only sold the full version to libraries. It was Derann who had standard 8 full length ones printed by reversal from 35mm for their library in the early days.

Two years ago I scored a copy of the anime feature ALAKAZAM THE GREAT

It's special to me because it's:

            1. optical sound in Japanese
            2. Good color: and I mean true good color.
            3. Cinemascope!

Now how many optical prints out there are like THAT?

            :-)

              Lincoln,

The German distributors put out some well edited digests, including Horror Express (UFA, 2x400), The Deep (Piccolo, 2x400', Scope) & City On Fire (UFA, 3x400').
