  • Glue?

Another "newbie" question. I need glue recommendations for splicing film. In this day of Super & Gorilla glue, I just wasn't sure. Thanks!

I'm not sure if film cement is still being produced (it doesn't have a long shelf life), but bear in mind, it will not join modern polyester film. Projectionists now use various forms of special clear adhesive tape.

Super Glue works great! I've been using it for years with my film slicer. I have films from 14 years ago that are still spliced with Super Glue and holding like new. Film cement sucks period!

Super glue, Cyanoacrylate, actually was developed by Kodak and first sold as Eastman#910 according to Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyanoacrylate.

The product sold by Van Eck is film cement, it is not any form of glue.
It somewhat dissolves the two film bases into one piece. This is why one side has to have its emulsion removed before making a cement splice.

Yes it only works on acetate based films not polyester ones.
