  • Look Back on 2024 (Super 8 Edition)

    Greetings friends!

Since we are nearing a brand new year of film collecting, I thought it would be fun to take a look back on collecting in 2024.

What were titles you found this past year that excited you?

What were some of your favorite films screening?

Give us the scoop on how "Super" your 8mm collection of filmgoing was.

This year was awesome, in that I was able to get made a few digests that I personally edited and looking amazing on super 8. Whether thru Andec or otherwise, it still astounds me that we can have new prints ... now in 2025!

Come on, Osi, name a few..... we (I) are (am) itching to know what?

I bought a few films in 2024 on both super 8 and 16mm, but my bucket list purchase has to be a full length copy on super 8 (3x600') of Airplane.....( and I AM being serious.....!)

        For me...

Its probably recency bias, but my favorite screening theis year was my Christmas Program with my parents! I screened Mickeys Christmas Carol and ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE with all the Christmas decor lit up and presents out. My mom loves Wonderful Life, so it felt great bringing smiles to their faces.

My favorite new (to me) prints for 2024 have been:
Blood For Dracula (Italian) 4 x 600 ft
The Neverending Story 600 ft Digest
        Death Race 2000 3 x 400 ft.

I only bought one film this year. “The Little Whirlwind” from Ultra 8! It was also my favorite screening.

            Hi Lincoln

I think if there was one reel of films I screen the most is a 1200ft of shorts etc in Scope. I like the Scope format which includes "She Flies" on the first flight of the Concorde also on that same reel "The Neverending Story". I have made up another 1200ft reel, but not in scope, but with many of those early Disney shorts that I bought from the 1970s. Its fun to look back to a time when those 200 footers were the most popular and just sit back and watch them all joined together.

A Star Wars title, for one, a new digest, and in scope, I was so happy and impressed with it, I ordered 5 more different digests that I edited this last summer/fall. I only wish I could sell them or at the least, make them available for others to have a print made at no profit for myself, but I'm not going to violate the studios copyright, and my one copy of each is just for my own enjoyment, my own Super 8 "fan edit"😀
