  • Super 8 Prices of old

I was looking at an archived page of Paul Fosters great website for some research on a film title and was enjoying all the great titles (and prices) of the time in 2002! I thought it would be neat to share all the old films for sale at that time with their price.

To be clear, this isn't a post complaining about prices now as I love treasure hunting for films and think that is part of the appeal of collecting film, but sometimes I wish I had found this great hobby earlier when titles were a little easier to come by!

Which films from this old listing would you love to have now?

I had 18 of those titles there. Would I buy them again on Super 8 - No

My summary of their quality based on my print.

Gremlins good cut down but choppy and variations in print.
She Wore a Yellow Ribbon Mountain release had print issues so did Derann release
Hunchback of Notre Dame they all have print issues
High Noon print wear and hissing sound
Easter Parade great print but haven’t watched DVD or Blu Ray for 20 years I do have a faded 400 somewhere.
Hunchback of Notre Dame great print as good as Beauty sold my print to one of the animators of movie.
Dodge City 3x400 was better than feature in terms of print and repeatability. It’s the one Errol Flynn I didn’t keep.
The Outlaw another one that had print issues. I have a nice colorised DVD which is actually Very Good
Toy Story Super print but can live withmy Blu Ray
The Fugitive great print but sound can be variable particularly waterfall scenes.
Saps st Sea Ironically great Walton print. 1st half is great but 2nd half of the movie on boat is well chronic.
Bonnie Scotland same again very good Derann print. When it is Stan and Ollie Great. The yucky love couple 🤮
Dirty Dozen great film when I find it on TCM or other channels I always end up watching it. Super 8 very good print slightly abridged but you wouldn’t notice.
The African Queen Derann print beautiful Red Fox faded and pink.
Devil Rides Out Very nice abridged print from Derann but is a marmite movie. Special effects are dire plus Patrick Allen dubbing of the hero is very off putting.
Romancing the Stone alright but is a bit soft. After a couple of screenings you will bury it or sell.
Jet Pilot nice print at the time but one of the worst John Wayne movies ever. Bought for £50 and made a profit.
Who Dares Wins I had the 600 digest and feature. Watched once and sold. Print is okay

Yummy titles there. I'd love one of those optical prints, and the Fox and the Hound, as long as it was the Derann print
