  • Amateur mistake - Does anyone know where this spring goes?

    Hello,
I recently bought this (Zenit?) Quarz (M?) camera from ebay, and unfortunately it arrived non-working. I thought maybe I could disassemble it and re-lube the parts for it to hopefully not work, but during disassembly my hand slipped and a spring(? not sure if it's the correct term) fell out before I had a chance to see where it's meant to be seated. It's the part that tensions the shutter button to push it back out after you push it in, so it's pretty essential. I can't seem to find any service manuals online, nor can I even accurately identify this camera - on the front it says Quarz and bears the KMZ logo, but online the most similar I can find is a Zenit Quarz-M; this lacks the selenium light meter however and is 8mm as opposed to Super 8 as far as I know. I haven't got a picture of the assembled camera so in lieu of that I have attached a picture of the camera's front plate. If anyone has any advice on this at all I would appreciate it it's been driving me crazy haha

    Hi Ollie,

I have a similar Quarz. I'll dismantle it a little and see if I can take a picture / explain in words where the spring goes.

      Hi Ollie,

Think I've found out where that spring goes, so here are two pictures. One showing from the rear or the camera looking toward the lens (A), clockwork motor to the left, and one from the film loading side of the camera looking as if you were loading film. Top spool dog ( where you put the full film spool ) shown at top (B)

The red scribble is where the spring is attached to the camera ( using the screw through the loop ) and the free end scribble green where is rests against the "rest" of the shutter button mech.

I hope this is the spring you mean, looks fairly like it to me.

      Regards,
      Dan

This is perfect; thank you so much! I've been trying to figure out where this piece goes for ages, and it's just been sitting disassembled on my desk since then, haha. Thank you so so much!!
