I thought it would be fun to hear what you think are your most rewatches Deranns films in your collection? How many times do you think you've screened them?
I'd say the one Derann I choose the most for shows is The Beatles Come to Town because it's quite a show in of itself: the songs, the audience and the Beatles themselves.
Maybe a year ago, we did a show for our friends where the feature was a Billy Joel concert on BluRay. Paul McCartney dropped in and performed the closing number ("Let it Be"). A Beatles concert-based short from 1963 seemed a really great opener for this concert.
My 8mm film collection wouldn't be quite the same without Derann Film Services. They've contributed a lot!
Impossible to pick just one title. My Derann MGM musical features are constantly being cycled and viewed. I just love the rich color saturation of these Technicolor films, and the great music and dancing talent on display in everyone of them. These Derann prints are all top notch quality and have been re-recorded with enhanced mono from DVD sound tracks. Theses features are mounted on four 600ft reels specifically so I can select a specific reel for 'spot' viewing. It is rare that I will run the whole feature in one shot.
If I had to pick one for my desert island it would have to be the truly wonderful Singin in The Rain, which raises a smile on every viewing!
Disney’s Cinderella. Wonderful repeatable movie enhanced by the incredible Derann quality of the film itself makes it an always “Go To” for myself and my daughter.
Goldfinger Sean Connery 007 James Bond is back in Action Honor Blackman Gert Fröbe
Shirley Eaton Harold Sakata and my favorite car Aston Martin DB5 first appearance
That hard one I think "The NeverEnding Story" in Super8 Scope, but for a straight out sit back and chill night it would have to be those "Fantasia" extracts all joined in order except for one, on a Elmo 1200 foot reel. The music the color is really amazing
Steve and Paul are absolutely correct! Impossible to pick just one. Star Wars is constantly in circulation in our house. It's gotten to the point where many of my Derann's are lucky to be seen once in a year. Yes, every collector needs to give a good shout out to Derann, who did SO MUCH to keep the super 8 film guage, at least, on life support.
I have plenty of Derann prints that I rarely manage to view, but I'm confident that the one I've run the most is the 'A View to a Kill' trailer reel, which I'd guess I've projected roughly about 20 times. The combination of the teaser and full theatrical trailer; the theme song; the British Film Year logo, and the limited edition box with the colour label all add bring back memories of a time when the Super 8 revival that Derann spearheaded was really taking off.
