  • Eumig Mark S 802D Frame Line Knob Stuck

    Hello all!

First of all, I’m new to the 8mm format and projectors overall, so please don’t shame me for anything. I’m trying to learn and become part of the community!

I’ve attached a photo of the projector I recently purchased off of eBay. With an initial test of everything, it appears to be running smoothly, except for the knob for adjusting the frame line. The knob is ceased and cannot be turned (I used a little bit of force but didn’t want to break it).

If anyone has any recommendations on how to free this up, or any thoughts on what I should do before using the projector, please let me know! The seller mentioned the projectors was purchased from an estate sale, and it came in the original box with all accessories. “The projector appears to be new in box with no sign of being used.”

    Thanks in advance!

the knob should turn smoothly. I have to work all morning but this afternoon I'll take mine out of storage and take a look at how the knob is connected to the linkage that moves the gate/mask....

Thanks for the response, Todd! I tried to get a picture of where the knob goes inside the projector, and I noticed lots of yellow/brown stuff. Not sure if this would cease the knob though.

I'm stumped. Without totally taking the projector apart, I can't see where/how this knob links to anything that would adjust framing. With the rear cover removed, I turned the knob but can't see that it's doing anything, but when runnning film it most certainly does something. So I would defer to the more experienced projector repair people on this forum. Just a matter of getting the right person's attention I think.

            Good news!

I attempted to give it a little more force. I placed a cloth over the knob and gently applied a pair of vice grips to lock onto the knob. I gently turned it back and forth and it freed right up! Now it’s working good as new. Hope this helps someone in the future!

Thanks again Todd for taking time to look into this!

              Colton,

That's good news! It's difficult to advise someone on how much "force" is enough when a knob doesn't want to budge. I'm so glad it worked out.

Good news! Don't hesitate to ask any film question. That's what the forum is about.

Man I'm so glad you got it fixed. Might be that the projector sat so long unused that the shaft was partially seized in old grease. I was going to recommend gentle heat (like from a blow dryer on medium--never a heat gun because that could melt plastics!) to get it to free up
