  • Oscars 50th Anniversary Promo 200ft Reel Jack Lemmon

Does anyone remember the 200ft colour sound release which was presented by Jack Lemmon? It was a potted history of the Academy Awards and was a short promo to the telecast for that year. John Wayne featured the Indian actress for Marlon Brando and David Niven responding to a streaker. Can’t remember where I got my title from years ago. Could have been Perrys or Derann it was secondhand It started with title card that film belonged to the private collection of somebody until it was bootlegged I mean released. Colour was good so it was later release. I presume 1980s The 50th was 1979 so must have been after that date.

    Any ideas who released it?

    Hi Mike

I know that Perry's definitely released this on S8 - in fact I took it along to Blackpool last year to project on the Saturday afternoon (though I'm not sure whether it actually got shown). It's a fun reel.

I know it says import, but it looks very much like they printed, to me. I recognise the handwriting on the leader!

    I've attached a scan of a mid-80s Perry's catalogue showing it.

Thanks for reply John. I suspect I did pick up my print among others on a trip to Perry’s shop from Ian. I have also been informed by an informed knowledgeable source outside this forum that Derann also printed this title. Could have been a title passed between dealers like Hollywood and the Stars series and some Laurel & Hardy titles. It is unlikely to turn up elsewhere other than super 8 or 16mm

I recently watched Shorty Caruso's print of this. As John said, it is a fun reel, however it feels like it's a cutdown of a longer version. As with Mike's print, the color is still good.

From memory, Shorty's print was 16mm. Is that the version you saw, Doug?

            John,

While Shorty does have this on 16mm, the print we screened was Super 8.

My print has more colour but that’s it.
