Kodak Instamatic M80 Super 8 Projector question

I have one of these and the latching film guide is stuck in the latched position, so I can't thread any film. Any ideas on how to get it un-stuck?

On the machines I know with a latch (Elmo), the latching guide latches only for threading, and releases when you go to either "run" or "stop". Basically they bend in to accept the very tip of the leader and bend it down to the gate. Once the film is in there, they release to keep the guide off the film surface and reduce film wear.
